AUTOMATICON-Warszawa-02

RACOM were recently invited to attend events with partners to showcase our product lines and services.

On 15th and 16th March we were in Poland at the invitation of our Polish partner, Sabur, to showcase our Radio modems, Cellular routers and Microwave units at Automaticon in Warsaw. A show that targets the fields of automation, control and measurement, our products attracted considerable interest with new applications for the products being identified. Our time in Poland also provided the opportunity to meet with long term as well as new customers, to chart the progress we have made in the market in the recent past and generate forecasts of the opportunities that lie ahead.

One week later, Vincent Bulot, our Regional Sales Manager, was exhibiting at M2M in Paris. Although the event specializes in the IoT market, the show attracted visitors from many related industry sectors including utility companies. Our product design and specs were received favorably by all who visited the booth.

One feature of our flagship radio modem, RipEX, that generated a lot of interest was the performance at 169 MHz. This frequency is license free in Europe when radio power is reduced to 0.5W. Using the allowed channel of 50 KHz, RipEX can utilize the full data rate of 166 kbps, something none of our competitors can compete with.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to visit us at both events. We look forward to continued positive dialogue over the coming months and years ahead.

And we look forward to future opportunities to visit these two beautiful cities again!

RipEX-Calculator

One of RACOM’s flagship products is RipEX, a best-in-class radio modem renowned for overall data throughput.  Thanks to the intuitive web interface, anybody with basic IP knowledge is capable of starting up RipEX within a few minutes and can maintain the network quite easily.

To support users and our claims about how easy it is to design and maintain a RipEX network, RACOM produced a calculator to ensure the robustness of RipEX networks in any application, by choosing the most effective parameter options and calculating the efficiency of RipEX networks. The latest version includes the functionality to perform calculations in networks using our new Base Driven protocol.

Although the calculator can be used by anyone who operates a RipEX network, it is a particularly useful tool for network designers and operators.

Network Designers will find the following functionality particularly useful:

  • Calculating estimates of network throughput and latency
  • Average round trip times
  • The total polling cycle
  • Average message delivery time
  • Deciding which network topology is the most applicable
  • Testing digital network efficiency whilst planning a network migration from a legacy network using the RACOM Migration Solution

Within networks that are already commissioned, Network Operators can use the above functionality to support resilient operation of their network and diagnose faulty or low network throughput

Although the RipEX calculator is an invaluable support mechanism for network designers and operators, we still have our professional Support team on hand to provide additional levels of support as and when required.

Every RACOM product supports remote management via an IP network, e.g. Internet or GSM. If and when necessary, RACOM specialists can assist with a specific issue, wherever on the globe you and your device happen to be.

2016 has been quite a year in more ways than one!

On the global stage Donald Trump triumphed and is destined to become the 45th US President and in Europe, the major seismic political event was surely the decision by the people of UK to leave the EU in their Brexit referendum.

Whilst not receiving the same global media coverage, RACOM has produced its own defining moments over the last twelve months.

RACOM is proud of its reputation as a market leading, trend setter and in 2016 released a solution the SCADA market has been requesting for years; a Base Driven protocol, primarily optimized for TCP/IP (IEC104), but also suitable for collision networks when a remote is not be heard by other remotes and/or different Rx and Tx frequencies are used. This firmware has the potential to revolutionise the SCADA industry!

We also documented our RipEX Migration solution to provide an optimal solution for upgrade to a modern, future proofed radio network using staged funding and available manpower. The solution is designed to allow a scaled upgrade with no network outages in the legacy network.

On other fronts our latest microwave radio had production scaled up to maximum capacity in 2016 and is now providing effective communications within various applications. Our digital footprint continues to expand and our customers can look forward to further expansion of our Web and other online services in the coming year.

At our global Sales Camp, decisions about parameters to be incorporated into new models in each of our product lines were reaffirmed as those being requested by the market. Development remains on schedule and will enable RACOM to continue as a market leader during 2017 and beyond.

May we take this opportunity to wish all our customers, suppliers, partners, colleagues and friends a well deserved break over the festive period and a successful 2017.

As time marches onward toward the end of the year, our recent trips on the road, taking us through 11 time zones have come to an end.

As always, it was good to meet up with old friends and make many new ones. A special thanks to everyone who made the time to meet with us, to discuss industry issues and how RACOM developments are providing essential solutions to the industry’s problems.

As examples of this, we were extremely encouraged by the interest shown in our latest firmware for our RipEX radio modem that includes the sophisticated Base Driven protocol optimized for TCP/IP applications like IEC104 making them reliable and stable even with a high number of RTU’s. Along with our recently documented Migration Solution, it becomes apparent that RACOM continues to produce optimal solutions that make sense!

In the Microwave market, it was good to have the opportunity to explain how our narrow bands and resistance to interference provides the optimal solution that many are looking for. The market is now beginning to realise that speed and bandwidth are not necessarily the best solution!

Migration solution

Within the latest RipEX firmware release, RACOM include our brand new Base Driven Protocol, optimised for TCP/IP. Developed for the Radio channel, this ground breaking software finally solves the problems created by the many modern RTU’s that use TCP/IP protocols such as IEC104. These have, until now, created major issues within narrowband radio data networks, all caused by limited throughput.

RipEX Base Driven Protocol has revolutionised communication possibilities within narrowband radio data networks that use TCP/IP protocols such as IEC104. Total user data throughput is significantly higher creating much improved levels of stability and reliability. All packet transmissions are managed by the local base station, configured within a star topology but with the ability to use repeaters. Data transmissions are distributed uniformly, even when a high number of remotes are connected.

Tests confirm that the new RipEX Base Driven Protocol handles 5 – 10 times more remotes under one base station compared to the existing Flexible protocol and with much higher levels of reliability.

Operators of SCADA networks that have a need for RTU’s using TCP/IP protocols such as IEC104 will understand why our Base Driven Protocol will revolutionise the possibilities within such SCADA networks.

And with our RipEX Migration Solution, reliable data transmissions with stable response times and minimum jitter can become the norm rather than the exception. Please use the following links for more detailed information or contact us to discuss in greater detail:

show2016

The next month will see RACOM bring its message to the market across three continents. During four separate events we will be catching up with old acquaintances, making new friends and introducing our latest developments to the market.

It all starts on 27th – 30th September when we will be sponsoring EUTC 2016 in Frankfurt, Germany. As a regular exhibitor at UTC events we look forward to the opportunities this show offers, to expand our business network and discuss market issues with customers and competitors. In addition we will be launching two new product developments that will have a major impact in the SCADA narrowband market. We expect to have a busy time when we are there!

One week later we will have crossed the Atlantic to exhibit our RAy microwave links in Las Vegas at WISPA from 11 – 13th October. This event was specifically chosen to allow us to increase our footprint in the North American market. We are looking forward to discussing market needs with current and potential customers and to meet with potential distributors to expand our geographical coverage within North America.

Immediately this event is over, we will have crossed 11 time zones to exhibit our RAy microwave links at MUM Dubai on 17th October. As a regular exhibitor at various MUM events we appreciate the planning that is put into these events.

Finally from 19th to 21st October we will be back in Europe exhibiting at Accadueo in Bologna, Italy. At this show we will introduce and promote RACOM wireless SCADA&Telemetry solutions to the utility market in Italy and surrounding countries. We will also be supporting our local partner who will also be exhibiting at the event.

If you are attending any of these events please visit us on our stand. We look forward to meeting you.
