In October, we released a new version packed with significant updates, including support for NETCONF and YANG with API interface. In today’s digital world, we still believe that face-to-face meetings are irreplaceable. That’s why we travelled to events in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, France, Italy and Czechia in October. RACOM, represented by its managing director Vít Koutensky, participated in the business mission accompanying the President of the Czech Republic on his trip to the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in the USA. Read the details of the trip, during which we made many promising contacts, here.

We consider personal contact with our customers to be very important, which is why we regularly participate in various conferences and exhibitions. In October you can meet David Marek, Sales Director, on the stand of our partner Xceltra at the Intelligent Cities Exhibition & Conference in Cairo. On the 30th of October you can see our products at the SNIR conference in Paris on the stand of our partner EBDS. We were represented by our partner Xtream at Intersec Saudi Arabia.

In September, we met up again outside of work… This time at a company-wide event that we organize every autumn. We played sports together and had a nice meal. Even though it’s the holidays, we have some news for you:

RipEX2 and RipEX2e radio modems now have two serial ports in one DSUB9 connector without the need for an mPCIe expansion board. COM1 can be configured to RS232 (CD, RxD, TxD, GND, RTS, CTS, RI) or RS485 (line A, line B), while COM2 is RS232 only (RxD, TxD, GND).

New FW for RipEX2 Radio modems and M!DGE3 Cellular routers with major security improvements has been released this summer. There is now automatic periodic key exchange for AES encryption on the radio channel, AEAD encryption and PPK keys for IPsec, and improvements to the dynamic Babel protocol on the radio channel. 256QAM modulation has been implemented in our RAy3 microwave link for 80 GHz band. Thanks to this, it is now possible to achieve higher speeds even on a narrower channel!

RipEX radio modems are also popular in Central America, where we have installations in Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama. Local power distributors have struggled with non-functioning radio networks in the difficult terrain of the Caribbean coast. Today several hundred of our RipEX radio modems are deployed to full satisfaction, most of them with cellular expansion cards. Read more about one of the references here.

Protocol on the Radio channel is the main parameter that determines the throughput of the overall network. Therefore, our RipEX radio modem has three different protocols for different types of applications. We have added new tutorial videos on our YouTube channel on how to set up our unique protocols Base driven, Flexible and Transparent. All of them are of course subtitled in English, Czech, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.

We don’t live only by work, so we go on trips together from time to time. Last week our cycling group enjoyed a traditional bike trip. Sometimes we play floorball or football, do pilates regularly or just go out to enjoy some time together.

The RAy microwave link family is growing with another band – this time 11 GHz. The new RAy3-11 has a max. RF power of +23 dBm and thanks to dual channel technology allows speeds up to 2 Gb/s.

After six years, we are discontinuing the production of the M!DGE2 cellular router because, among other reasons, the key components used in it are no longer available on the market. The M!DGE2 has been fully replaced since 2023 by the new, more modern M!DGE3 generation. All customers who have been purchasing the M!DGE2 from us will be contacted individually with details of how production will be discontinued and the possibility of last orders.

Our RipEX radio modems are often used in marine applications. With our partner EBDS we are therefore participating in the Navexpo conference and exhibition in France this week. Navexpo is one of the most important trade shows where the latest technologies used on water, underwater and in the air are presented.

The process ‘the handover of the company’s management to a new generation‘ which has been underway at RACOM for several years was formally completed in March. The founders of the company, Jiří Hruška and Martin Lácha, have left the day-to-day management and RACOM has 4 executive directors since April. More information can be found here.

The new model of our world-famous Cellular Router M!DGE3 has been launched in March. The M!DGE3e is based on the same platform as our flagship M!DGE3, but we’ve thoughtfully stripped out some features to make it more affordable. More information can be found here.

Our website is updated every day, but in March we launched an upgraded version that runs on the latest CMS system, so the site is significantly faster. We modified the overall design and made the structure and navigation clearer.

As part of the redesign of the website, a small evolutionary change of our logo was made. The font itself has changed only slightly, the bat icon has been modified more. It is now square and better suits the current requirements for displaying on mobile phones.

At the beginning of January, the third FAT for the next delivery of RipEX2 radio modems for power distribution in Egypt was successfully completed. We have delivered approximately 300 pcs of RipEX2 radio modems in the first phase of the project and believe that more will follow. More information can be found here.

RACOM continues its steady growth! As every year in January, the company’s management met with the sales team to review the previous year and to inform themselves about the prospects for the year ahead. The results for 2023 were better than 2022 and the outlook for 2024 also looks promising. More information can be found here.

As every year we will be attending the Distributech Conference & Exhibition, which will take place 27-29 February 2024 in Orlando, USA. Celesc in Brazil has decided to use our radio modems in a pilot project to remotely collect data from power meters in order to automate metering. RipEX and RipEX2 radio modems are used in the network through which approximately 35,400 meters communicate to the centre. In November we hosted a webinar to discuss our latest RAy3 80 GHz microwave link with 10 Gb/s speed. We talked about how the RAy3-80 is performing in mass production, what its technical features and capabilities are and what users have experienced with it in the field. The second webinar was held in December and focused on two more products that we launched in 2023 – the RipEX2e Radio modem and the M!DGE3 Cellular router and their comparison with other members of their product lines. We also talked about current trends in SCADA communications and hybrid networks that combine communication over a private radio channel and a cellular network. We have released new FW 2.1.2.0 for RipEX2 Radio modem and M!DGE3 Cellular router. The most interesting of the new features is OpenVPN, the implementation of which is unique in the radio modem market. For RipEX2 we have also improved the encryption on the radio channel to AES-256-CCM which prevents Replay attack.
